Bilbo motivates me

It is 60 years since he left the lonely mountain. Gandalf has wished him well as he sets off from the shire on his final adventure … but he still has the ring.

A good friend reminds him of this, and Bilbo lets the ring fall from his fingers and departs.

It’s sad to end a chapter of your life and give up familiar things. At the same time, it’s exhilarating to look forward to new adventures. Giving up a place you’re used to can be tough. I have a reason to move on—several in fact. Home has been my place of safety, family, friends, love, and happiness. Times have changed around here, and it’s no longer the same.

I have changed, and that motivates me to move on.

One could enjoy an afternoon in the shade on the lake shore and simply let the cares of the everyday world pass by. With a long hike uphill behind you, sitting and gazing over the beautiful blue waters brings pleasure and a feeling of accomplishment. And tomorrow is soon enough to begin writing, but today is meant for dreaming of stories and adventures to capture on the pages of your book.

Meet my new characters–Lady veterinarian Kat Lamar of the Flying Horse Ranch and Cade Crocker as the new foreman. Kat needs Cade—his steadiness complements her impetuous nature, and Cade needs Kat. She prods his more plotting nature into plunging ahead.

The Flying Horse Caper

Bad luck, sleuthing, and misfortunes abound for Kate Lamar, a veterinarian working at her family’s troubled horse ranch. Cade Crocker, the foreman hired to turn the ranch into a profitable venture, left his previous job under a cloud of suspicion, blamed for the death of a valuable stallion. Someone is putting the Flying Horse Ranch out of business and setting off a series of sabotage mishaps. A wild stallion, drawn to the mares on the ranch, is the objective of a disreputable newcomer claiming the stallion is his. A stable fire, like the one at Cade’s last botched job, occurs on the Flying Horse and starts him on the trail of the arsonist and horse thief. Kat comes face to face with her fear of losing a horse at a treacherous waterfall and chooses to face her fear, and Cade, by her side, goes after the man who once outwitted him. Together, they put their past defeats behind and go bravely forward to thwart the outlaw and save the stallion.

The Seaside Painting Caper anniversary

It’s almost the one-year anniversary of my first published book. I’m so thankful and amazed at this great feat. I’m diligently writing my second novel.

The Seaside Painting Caper is a “breezy debut novel” as noted in the Kirkus Reviews. My character, Trina, takes a much-needed break from her museum job and travels to Catamara, a beach resort town, to work in the family’s Hidden Treasure Gift Shop.

Trina is intrigued with a missing 100 year old painting–a dark angel painting–and twin to its magnificent white angel painting hanging in Catamara’s oldest church. Her sleuthing efforts are joined by Daniel, who helps her search through the twisting rooms and stairways of the church.

She soon finds herself embroiled in an art forgery scheme and enlists her friends to help draw out the culprits.

You’ll enjoy my sunny beach story amid summer’s white sand, blue skies, surfing waves and tide-pool adventures as Trina reacquaints herself with God’s abiding love and direction in her life.

Great start to the new year

Smooth sailing now that the holidays are behind us. The new year is the time to evaluate accomplishments and examine what I could have done a little better, been a little nicer, worked a little more diligently, and enjoyed family a little bit more. Do you ever wonder?

You’d think having a book published and seeing it advertised for purchase is an exciting achievement. But for my book, the descriptions on the Barnes and Noble website and the Amazon website are too funny for words. My book is not about a goat!
